How to coach clients in person and online (hybrid PT)
7 min read · Updated 19 October 2026
Hybrid coaching means some sessions with you and the rest on their own, following your programme. It suits busy clients and lets you coach more people than your diary alone allows.
Who hybrid coaching suits
- Clients who can see you once or twice a week but want to train three or four times.
- Clients who've done a block of 1:1s and want to keep going for less money.
- Clients who travel or work shifts and can't keep a fixed weekly time.
Build the offer
Keep it to one or two plans. Each one says what's in it every month:
- A set number of sessions with you, for example 4 a month.
- A written programme for the days they train alone.
- A short check-in call, for example every two weeks.
- How they reach you between sessions, and how fast you reply.
Price it as a monthly plan
Start from what the sessions with you would cost on their own, then add your time for the programme and the check-ins. Write down how long a week of programming and a check-in really take you, and charge for that time.
A monthly plan paid by card or Direct Debit is easier for both of you than selling separate packs and calls.
Decide what happens to sessions they don't use. Letting a few carry over to next month is kind, and a limit stops them building up.
Write their week
Write the whole week in one place: the session with you, the sessions they do alone and the rest days. Add a short note and a video link to anything new. Once a week works, copy it forward and change what needs to change.
Get them to log the sessions they do alone
If they write down what they lifted, you can see whether the programme is working and adjust it before the next session. Ask for the weights and reps, and one line on how it felt. Read it before you see them.
Run check-in calls on time
- Book them at a set time, like any other session.
- Look at their logged sessions first.
- End each call with one or two changes for the next fortnight.
Doing it in one app
In Coachfront you sell a monthly plan with a set number of sessions a month, write each client's week, and log the session as you coach. Clients log the sessions they do on their own and see their programme, your notes and their personal bests. Check-in calls go in your diary with your video link. You can set it up free and try it with one client.
